HS-code review and permit advice

As your customs clearing agent, Sheffield reviews the goods’ HS code alongside the actual product description, specifications, intended use and supporting documents. This helps identify the relevant government agencies and the permits, conformity documents or approvals that may be required for the shipment.

Share the product information before shipment where possible. We advise what to prepare and check existing approvals against the goods being declared.

Confirm the holds shown in iCMS

After the customs entry is submitted, Sheffield checks the holds and instructions displayed in iCMS, the Integrated Customs Management System. We confirm the agency involved, the entry reference and the outstanding requirement, then explain the action needed to progress clearance.

The HS-code review helps establish likely regulatory requirements; the actual iCMS entry status confirms the holds affecting the submitted shipment.

Assist with permits, submissions and compliance

Sheffield advises on the permits or supporting documents needed to address the identified hold and assists with the relevant applications, submissions and compliance follow-up within the agreed clearance scope. This may include document corrections, conformity evidence, agency approvals or inspection coordination, depending on the goods and the instruction received.

We track the relevant OGA / PGA response and follow up on outstanding requirements so the importer understands what has been submitted, what remains pending and the next step.

Follow through to hold removal

  1. Review the HS code, product details and applicable agency requirements.
  2. Submit the customs entry and confirm the holds displayed in iCMS.
  3. Advise on the permits, certificates or corrective documents needed.
  4. Assist with submissions and coordinate the required compliance action.
  5. Follow up with the responsible OGA / PGA on approval and hold removal.
  6. Check the updated iCMS status and confirm remaining release requirements before collection.

Sheffield assists throughout the hold-resolution process. Permit approval and authorisation to remove a hold remain with the responsible agency; the team confirms the resulting status in the customs system.

Keep customs and agency approvals aligned

Customs payment, agency approval and cargo release are linked parts of the clearance plan. Paying duty does not by itself resolve a missing permit or outstanding OGA / PGA requirement. Sheffield coordinates the entry records, relevant agency documents and system follow-up to support compliant clearance.

For goods subject to KEBS conformity requirements, prepare the applicable documentation before shipping and ensure the product and shipment references match.

Practical questions

Can Sheffield identify permit requirements from the HS code?

Yes. Sheffield reviews the HS code together with the actual goods, specifications and use to advise on applicable OGA / PGA permits and compliance requirements. After entry submission, we confirm the holds displayed in iCMS.

Will Sheffield assist with removal of an iCMS agency hold?

Yes. As your clearing agent, Sheffield checks the hold, advises on the required permits or evidence, assists with submissions and compliance follow-up, and checks the resulting iCMS status. The responsible agency authorises approval and hold removal.

Does paying customs duty remove an OGA / PGA hold?

A missing permit or outstanding agency requirement still needs resolution. Sheffield follows up on the relevant compliance action alongside customs payment and other release requirements.
